No mountain success for Quattro Plant ‘Cool Kid’ Andy Reid

Andy Reid wasn’t able to master the Mountain over the Bank Holiday weekend at Cadwell Park on his Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki. But ever the optimist, the Northern Ireland rider is ready to re-load and prepare for Oulton Park in a fortnight’s time, after two untimely crashes at the Lincolnshire venue. He remains third in the championship standings.

In Sunday’s Sprint Race, Reid was unsighted on the opening lap shuffle around the narrow Cadwell Park track: he simply touched a white line and crashed out. During Monday’s feature race he had battled his way back from outside the top ten, and was setting himself up for a comfortable podium finish when brake problems forced him off track. After some superb riding to stay onboard at high speed on the Lincolnshire grass, Reid rejoined the action but later crashed out.

Andy Reid: “It’s been a character building weekend but the championship is far from over and I’ll take the positives. I’m not injured and that’s a bonus. Very disappointed yes, but after being harshly punished in Sunday’s Sprint Race for a small error, which is the nature of the Cadwell Park circuit, I had, what I believed was a cast iron third place in the bag on Monday.

“You have that split second to grab the brake lever into turn one and mine had moved out about half an inch. That was enough to force me onto the white line as I tried to work out what had happened and I couldn’t commit to the turn. It was simply too late to turn in and I had to go onto the grass. My crash afterwards was really peculiar as it was like an out lap and the front just washed out on the ripples between turn two and three.

“Next up is Oulton Park which is my favourite circuit. I need to put the hammer down and go for two wins. It’s not a big ask, I just need to put this weekend behind me as there are still 200 points up for grabs in the title hunt.”
