Meeting budding sports stars at local Summer Camp
I was delighted to be asked by the Seaview Enterprises’ ‘More than a Club NI’ project to visit their hugely successful T:BUC Arsenal Summer Camp at Seaview Stadium last week to chat with local budding sport stars.
I was asked to talk to young people from North Belfast and Newtownabbey, where I grew up, about my career to date as a professional motorcycle rider.
I have to admit that I was really quite nervous beforehand. I wasn’t sure what to expect of 30 to 35 children staring at me, but they seemed really interested in how I’ve gone from a young motocross rider to racing the British Supersport Championship for Team Traction Control.
Afterwards they bombarded with me loads of questions, which was great, and I signed quite a few posters and even the odd pair of football boots.
It was a really great experience and one which I thoroughly enjoyed. The camp was really well run and the young people seemed to be having a great week, which is a credit to the hard work and dedication of the coaches involved.
The camp aimed to improve children’s Literacy & Numeracy through the power of sport and it’s great that the ‘More than a Club NI’ project has this forward thinking approach to deliver these types of initiatives.
